SuperDesktopExtender 3000 (aka SDE3k)

SDE3k is a utility to allow sharing a single keyboard and mouse between multiple computers. I generally have several machines on my desktop and this allows me to effectively use all the machines as a single SUPER machine!

Ok, exaggeration aside, I find it a very effective productivity tool, when I am programming I often times need to have some reference materials up, so I usually will open up the PDF or whatever on the second machine and keep my main development environment open all the time. Whenever I need to change the page I just slide my mouse off the screen to the other computer.

If you are familiar with the x2x or TeleEffect tools then you know about what SDE3k does.

Oh, I am also taking name suggestions.

Status

Right now SDE3k is a rewrite of my old x2win tool, and is in super-alpha status. Good news is that simple text copy-and-paste has been added, and some other minor improvements. Bad news is I only have the Win32 version available right now, and it is not very robust yet, its mostly a prototype of the rewrite.

Usage

The distribution below contains a single exe, put it wherever you like. To start using it, run "sde3k" on the slave machine, and then "sde3k -m (machine name)" on the master machine.

The icon in the taskbar can be used to change the location of the trigger point, it defaults to the right side of the screen. If you move the mouse to the slave desktop and try to paste, SDE3k will copy the selection from the master machine onto the slave. Conversely, if the mouse is on the slave desktop and something is copied to the clipboard, SDE3k will copy the selection from the slave back to the master.
